This year, we’ve returned to in-person gatherings for our signature special events, like Golf ‘Fore’ Hospice, which happened in June, and the Butterfly Release, which happened in July. We’re glad we’re able to host these fun events.
In a line of work people often think of as sad or depressing, events like these ones help demonstrate that the people who work for Centrica Care Navigators, and the people who support us, are doing what they can to make lives better for everyone in our community. (P.S. Our work isn’t sad or depressing – it’s fulfilling, helping people live their best lives. It can be really interesting too, meeting new people and learning all about them!)
Everyone deserves care
Supporting our community: that’s a big part of what we do as a nonprofit organization. It’s one of the things that makes us stand out among end-of-life care providers in southwest Michigan. Every service provider does good work that helps people, but a lot of them are for-profit, which means they have different goals than we do.
Their goal is to make money, which they do by working specifically with patients who are able to pay for service. Everyone deserves compassionate, supportive end-of-life care, though, and that’s what we do: Centrica Care Navigators serves everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.
We’re more than just a hospice, of course. We offer a variety of services, like our extensive grief support and our specialized, centrally located hospice sites.
Giving back to the community
As our population ages, more and more older people are getting to the point when they’ll need care. It’s estimated that more than a fifth of Americans will be age 65 or older in less than a decade. They will be looking for people and places who can take care of them the way they should be cared for. Sure, they might receive service from a quality for-profit agency, but not everyone has the ability to pay. They shouldn’t be left out.
Over the past 20 years (since 2000), the number of for-profit agencies has more than doubled to over 71% of all hospice sites in the U.S. Meanwhile, the number of nonprofit agencies, like Centrica Care Navigators, has stayed steady or even shrunk. We’ve been a nonprofit since the 1980s and will stay that way.
As a nonprofit agency, we’re accountable to our community, not financial investors. People give to us, often in the form of a donation or participation in one of our fun special events. In turn, we give back to our community with our experienced care and professional staff.
Ultimately, all that anyone looking for care for themselves or a loved one wants to know is: will I get the care I need here? At Centrica Care Navigators, the answer is “Yes,” without any worry about how they’re going to pay for care.
