Seeing someone you love suffer is one of the hardest things in life.
When Matthew was just 15 years old, his mom received a stage IV breast cancer diagnosis. He watched her bravely battle cancer for six years until her kidneys and liver began to fail, and she couldn’t fight anymore.
As she neared the end of her life, their family’s priority was her quality of life. They knew that easing her pain, making sure she was comfortable, and spending meaningful time together were what mattered most.
After meeting with the hospice care team at Centrica Care Navigators to discuss what would work best for their family and for her care, the family chose Rose Arbor Place, Centrica’s hospice care site, where she could receive around-the-clock care and support.
Even at a young age, Matthew saw just how much this care mattered. Right away, a team of nurses, hospice aides, a social worker, and the chaplain all surrounded both her and the entire family with love, dignity, and respect. They helped her feel at home and gave the family a sense of peace during one of the most difficult chapters of their lives.
When the time came, Matthew knew his mom died with dignity and without pain. Knowing this meant everything. The grace and compassion she received, up until her last breath, would leave a lasting impact on his family… in more ways than one.
Care that Leaves an Impact
Today, Matthew works as a grief support counselor at Centrica. Every day, he repays those who cared for his mom by providing that same compassionate care to his patients and families.
When you partner with Centrica, you help provide care for people like Matthew’s mom. For the patients under Matthew’s care today. And for those that will need our care in the future.
This ripple effect of compassionate care is possible because of generous people like you supporting non-profit hospice care.
